About The Artist:Christian Landenberger was a German Impressionist painter and influential art teacher. Initially known for dark-toned genre scenes, he shifted in the 1890s to plein-air painting with a brighter, more expressive style. Landenberger was a founding member of the Munich Secession and became known for luminous landscapes and his celebrated Bathing Boys series. His Lake Constance series (of which Lower Lake is a part of) reflects his deep connection to nature and his skill in depicting water, sky, and reflections, creating scenes that feel both tranquil and alive with subtle movement. These works are often praised for their poetic quality and contribution to German Impressionism. He taught extensively, opening a private painting school and later becoming a professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart.
