Flos Gatto Table Lamp

Soft, sweet, and at home atop your table, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglionis lamp emits a warm, diffused glow instead of a purr. Cat in Italian, its created through the Castiglionis cocoon process: an internal steel structure is sprayed with a soft, translucent resin. The substantial (22″ high) lamp makes an eye-catching accent for a credenza, large end table, or even the floor. Made in Italy. Born in Milan in 1918, Achille Castiglioni is an internationally acknowledged master of Italian design. During his 52-year career, he designed and collaborated on nearly 150 design objects, from lamps to cameras to car seats. His work is known for combining simplicity with fun, along with close attention to how objects are used in real life. In 1997, MoMA launched the first individual retrospective of his work with the exhibition Achille Castiglioni: Design! Prior to that, his designs were featured in numerous exhibitions at the Museum, including The Modern Movement in Italy: Architecture and Design (1954) and Recent Acquisitions: Design (1967-8 and 1970-1). Castiglionis work has had a significant impact on the history of the applied arts and has taught generations about good design.
