A limited edition collab between two design icons.
In celebration of their 90th anniversary, Artek has joined forces with Finnish design house Marimekko for products such as this Aalto Marimekko Side Table 90D. The collaboration merges Marimekkos art of printmaking with Arteks wood-bending technology. For the Side Table 90D, originally designed by Alvar Aalto in 1935, a Marimekko pattern has been applied to the birch veneer surface of the table using marquetry. This wood-working technique turns the patterns shapes into contrasting wood grains, resulting in a striking shimmering effect that changes with the lighting in your space. Keeping with Artek and Marimekkos commitment to reducing their environmental impacts, the marquetry technique minimizes wood waste.
Lightweight and versatile, the three-legged Side Table 90D is a highly versatile, three-legged, low side table that can live and function anywhere in your home, from the living room to the bath to your childrens room. The legs of the stool employ Aaltos famed L-leg innovation, a process that involves making slits in the wood, and inserting and gluing wood veneer strips. Made in Finland, the Artek Aalto Marimekko Side Table 90D measures 17.5h x 18.75″diam. Both Alvar Aalto and Artek are represented in MoMAs collection. Work by Marimekko has been featured in the MoMA exhibitions Items: Is Fashion Modern? (20172018) and Century of the Child: Growing by Design, 19002000 (2012).
