Takashi Murakami who was born in Tokyo in 1962, is a world-renowned artist known for blurring the line between fine art and pop culture. His artwork is greatly influenced by mangaJapanese comic books and graphic novelsand animations. His work has been featured in several MoMA exhibitions, including Comic Abstraction: Image-Breaking, Image-Making from 2007.

Murakamis 727 features Mr. DOB, a character created in 1993 who was among the first in a pantheon of characters inspired by the culture of anime and manga that emerged in Japans postwar era. The three skateboards are made of 7-ply American maple wood and hanging hardware is included. Each deck measures 31h x 8w x 0.5″d.
